Your Most Asked Questions

How Fast Do These Babies Go?

With the throttle wide open or pedalling to the max on a flat road, you’ll be cruising up to ~35kph. On downhills, with the wind at your back, it’s likely you can go significantly faster—good thing our bikes are built with big, sturdy brakes to slow you down in a hurry!

Are they easy to ride?

Wildsyde bikes are unique in the electric bike market in that our bikes are built with ease in mind. We're a group of die-hard cyclists that love pedalling our bikes, but when we want to cruise, we really want to cruise, so the Wildsyde bikes are designed for comfort and require minimal effort to ride, whether pedalling or using the throttle.

Should I wear a helmet when riding a bike?

Under NZ law you are always required to wear a helmet while riding any kind of bicycle, including e-bikes.

How far can I go?

The new 2021 model with upgraded battery can easily achieve 63km+ on one charge and we are being conservative. Too many ebike companies overestimate their ranges. Of course that distance is going to depend on how much you let the bike do the work—how often you use the throttle, at what level you set the pedal assist, and the usual environmental factors of a bike ride (body weight & size, changes in elevation, direction of the wind).

Can I ride it in the rain? What about the snow?

Wildsyde bikes can withstand rain and snow. The new long fenders on the 2021 models will help reduce but not eliminate the tyre spray. The Beast’s tyres can get you where you want to go even when there’s snow on the ground, but it’s always good to use caution and take it slow in the turns!

How much can I carry on the bike?

Wildsyde bikes are built strong & sturdy. Our accessory racks have a recommended weight limit of 25kg or 55lbs.

How long do they take to charge?

They will fully charge overnight, about 7-8 hours depending how depleted the battery was.

How many Watt Hours (Wh) does my battery have?

That depends on what the wattage and amp hours are. For example a 36v 15ah battery will have 540watt hours. (36v x 15ah=540wh). The bigger the Watt Hours, the longer the range.

Should I get the wide tires or narrow tires?

It depends on what you like! Some riders prefer the easy, lighter handling that comes with the narrower tires. Others love the versatility the wider tires offer, since they handle best off-road on sand, dirt, and snow.

Can I ride it on a bike path?

Yes, unless otherwise specified by the local municipality, your class e-bike can be ridden on a bike path.

Do the bikes come with lights?

Yes all Wildsyde bikes have factory fitted, hard wired front and rear LED lights. The rear light even has a brake light installed. Pull the brake lever and the rear light comes on.

Do I have to remove the battery to charge it?

No. On the Beast, Shadow and Hunni Bunni there is an external charging port under the tank towards the seat downtube. Simply plug the charger into this and you are good to go. You will find the charging port on the Paree and Roam on the side of the battery casing.

Can I remove the battery to charge it at work or at home?

Yes, simply unlock the battery tank, undo the Velcro straps, remove the controller cable and external charging port cable and take it with you.

How many charges will I get from my battery?

Generally speaking in the region of 500 charges before experiencing a decline in performance, at 800 charges you’ll likely be needing a new battery… that’s about ~4800km.

Can I charge my phone from the battery?

Yes, you actually can… indirectly though. The King Metre display has a USB charging port on the side or front. Turn off the bike, plug the cable into the USB port and turn on the bike. Now you are charging.

What’s the best way to transport my bike by car?

If you don’t have a pick up truck or van, you will likely need a rear hitch mounted bike rack where the bike sits on its wheels in a trough. We recommend heavy duty e-bike specific racks, there are a number of suppliers.

Where do you ship?

Throughout mainland New Zealand. Shipping to outer islands such as Stewart Island and Chatham Islands can be arranged for an extra cost upon request.
