Detailed Information

Overview

The Wildsyde Beast electric bicycle is the epitome of a vintage styled beach cruiser, emulating the look of a classic motorcycle with the high centre mounted ‘gas’ tank, 4” wide knobby tyres and swept back cruiser style handlebars.

The powerful rear hub motor creates 81Nm of torque and propels this Beast effortlessly up to a max speed of 35kph, while the hydraulic disc brakes have no problems pulling on the reins and bringing this guy to a halt. It has 5 levels of Pedal Assist (PAS) or power zones to get you up to speed while getting the legs and heart moving, but if you want to just kick back and relax the thumb throttle will allow you to do just that. If you really want to maximise your range and put some serious pedalling in, the 7 speed Shimano shifter with the massive 34 tooth megarange rear cassette will make climbing hills a little easier - when you get to the of the hill, you can change up to a hard gear and start picking up the pace.

The Wildsyde Beast is ‘Fun’ctional - not only are you using it for moving around quickly and efficiently, avoiding traffic congestion and parking hassles, but you can also use it to haul your toys. Whether loading up the rack and optional saddle bags with your sports equipment or groceries, heading to the beach with your surfboard or the mountain with your skis, the Beast will make it fun, enjoyable and put a big smile on your face.

With a top speed of 35kph, an electric bike can take time off your commute, especially in heavy rush hour traffic. The throttle and effective PAS system helps you maintain speed without breaking a sweat, so you can show up at the office, a meeting or your destination of choice fresh, calm, collected and ready to roll into whatever life brings you. Like all Wildsyde electric bikes, having a battery is eco-friendly, reducing your dependence on the car and helping to minimise the use of fossil fuels. Think of the money you can save in gas and parking fees.

For some people, riding an eBike simply goes against their belief that you should work hard when you are on a bike. Fair enough, but we believe that life is not always about grinding up the backside of a mountain and sometimes you just want to take things easy and enjoy time in the saddle. There are hundreds of electric bikes out there, many of them very utilitarian in their appearance, boring and run of the mill. Wildsyde electric bikes are anything but - they are different, stylish and way more than just cool. They take you back to a time in your life, when riding a bike was fun, not a chore. Wildsyde bikes bring the kid out in you again, taking you back to your youth and compliment your young-at-heart lifestyle. You can be sure that riding the Beast eBike will be making heads turn as well as the pedals.

FAQs

How Fast Do These Babies Go?

With the throttle wide open or pedalling to the max on a flat road, you’ll be cruising up to ~35kph. On downhills, with the wind at your back, it’s likely you can go significantly faster—good thing our bikes are built with big, sturdy brakes to slow you down in a hurry!

Are they easy to ride?

Wildsyde bikes are unique in the electric bike market in that our bikes are built with ease in mind. We're a group of die-hard cyclists that love pedalling our bikes, but when we want to cruise, we really want to cruise, so the Wildsyde bikes are designed for comfort and require minimal effort to ride, whether pedalling or using the throttle.

Should I wear a helmet when riding a bike?

Under NZ law you are always required to wear a helmet while riding any kind of bicycle, including e-bikes.

How far can I go?

The new 2021 model with upgraded battery can easily achieve 63km+ on one charge and we are being conservative. Too many ebike companies overestimate their ranges. Of course that distance is going to depend on how much you let the bike do the work—how often you use the throttle, at what level you set the pedal assist, and the usual environmental factors of a bike ride (body weight & size, changes in elevation, direction of the wind).

Can I ride it in the rain? What about the snow?

Wildsyde bikes can withstand rain and snow. The new long fenders on the 2021 models will help reduce but not eliminate the tyre spray. The Beast’s tyres can get you where you want to go even when there’s snow on the ground, but it’s always good to use caution and take it slow in the turns!

How much can I carry on the bike?

Wildsyde bikes are built strong & sturdy. Our accessory racks have a recommended weight limit of 25kg or 55lbs.

How long do they take to charge?

They will fully charge overnight, about 7-8 hours depending how depleted the battery was.

How many Watt Hours (Wh) does my battery have?

That depends on what the wattage and amp hours are. For example a 36v 15ah battery will have 540watt hours. (36v x 15ah=540wh). The bigger the Watt Hours, the longer the range.

Should I get the wide tires or narrow tires?

It depends on what you like! Some riders prefer the easy, lighter handling that comes with the narrower tires. Others love the versatility the wider tires offer, since they handle best off-road on sand, dirt, and snow.

Can I ride it on a bike path?

Yes, unless otherwise specified by the local municipality, your class e-bike can be ridden on a bike path.

Do the bikes come with lights?

Yes all Wildsyde bikes have factory fitted, hard wired front and rear LED lights. The rear light even has a brake light installed. Pull the brake lever and the rear light comes on.

Do I have to remove the battery to charge it?

No. On the Beast, Shadow and Hunni Bunni there is an external charging port under the tank towards the seat downtube. Simply plug the charger into this and you are good to go. You will find the charging port on the Paree and Roam on the side of the battery casing.

Can I remove the battery to charge it at work or at home?

Yes, simply unlock the battery tank, undo the Velcro straps, remove the controller cable and external charging port cable and take it with you.

How many charges will I get from my battery?

Generally speaking in the region of 500 charges before experiencing a decline in performance, at 800 charges you’ll likely be needing a new battery… that’s about ~4800km.

Can I charge my phone from the battery?

Yes, you actually can… indirectly though. The King Metre display has a USB charging port on the side or front. Turn off the bike, plug the cable into the USB port and turn on the bike. Now you are charging.

What’s the best way to transport my bike by car?

If you don’t have a pick up truck or van, you will likely need a rear hitch mounted bike rack where the bike sits on its wheels in a trough. We recommend heavy duty e-bike specific racks, there are a number of suppliers.

Where do you ship?

Throughout mainland New Zealand. Shipping to outer islands such as Stewart Island and Chatham Islands can be arranged for an extra cost upon request.

What a surprise!

What a surprise. I received this as a gift from my brother. I am retired and live in a small town on the Eastern shore of Maryland. This fits the ticket to either run errands or just go for a ride. Have been riding for a year without any problem.

Excellent Commuter

I use this bike as my daily commuter to work. It has been perfect for a couple of steep hills that I hit on the way home. Been using this almost daily (minus a few cold days) for 9 months now and it has paid for itself in the first 6-7 months.
Pros
Lots of complements
Good daily exercise - I rely on the motor more in the morning to help wake up and less in the afternoon for more workout, had a few lazy days here and there
Steep hills have not been an issue (I weigh 180lbs)
Hydraulic disc brakes are a must for downhills on a bike this size
Loving the thumb throttle
Perfect price range for a bike this size and power
Customer support during my first year so far has been headache free

Cons (Keep in mind this is from an older version without some of the upgrades)
Small headlamp can be seen but doesn't light the road; had to supplement with a flashlight (the new bigger lamp wasn't an option at the time)
Fender doesn't go down far enough on the back wheel so you get that fun little mud line up your back. I added a little flap myself that extends it 4-5 inches and the problem is gone. (hard to tell from the pics, but their new fender does look longer)
